The Russian Tsar described the region in 1818 as follows: "It is a lush meadow, covered with flowers that can only be seen at home in the gardens. A large number of horses of the Budjak Tatars graze here, and man is an occasional guest. This is the area around the city of Taraclia. "Gagauzes, but also Germans and Bulgarians settled here in 1814 and 1819 respectively. They developed the viticulture. In 1914, the cellar of Taraclia was described as "exemplary". Another factory, founded in 1944, produces wine of very good quality. The Cabernet of Taraclia is renowned. Other cellars are in Cazaclia and Ciumai.
