VASILE STATUE ALECSANDRI

This monument is dedicated to the Romanian poet, playwright, diplomat and politician Vasile Alecsandri (1821-1890). He was one of the figures of the revolutionary movement of 1848. This bronze statue is the work of the sculptor Ion Zderciuc and was erected in 1997 in front of the National Library of Moldova. The poet is depicted dressed "à la Parisienne", holding a cane in his right hand and a hat in his left. A bust of Alecsandri by Dubinovschi was also erected in the central park of the capital in 1957.
