Nearly 40 km north of Monument Valley, Mexican Hat takes its name from a rock formation 4 km to the northeast of the village, resembling a "Mexican hat", i.e. a sombrero. This tiny village in the middle of nowhere has a gas station and some accommodation. While not worth the detour, it does have the advantage of being close to Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods - 21 km - and Goosenecks State Park - 22 km.
