Asti has had a great commercial tradition since the Middle Ages. The large market is spread over three squares, and even if you don't want to buy anything, wandering among the early produce of the local growers and between the stalls of cheap clothes remains a fun occupation. There are 47 grower stalls and around 60 food stalls, not to mention the many non-food stalls (around 250!). The daily market can be found in piazza Catena or in the 1925 covered market in piazza Libertà.

A patisserie in existence since 1912 that has preserved its beautiful period woodwork and is bursting with sweet treats. The cakes and sweets would lift anyone's spirits: exquisite stuffed brioches for breakfast, mignardises, pralines and marrons glacés, polentina delle mandorle... Don't miss the Torta del Palio, created in honor of the Palio d'Asti, made with almond flour, honey and drops of dark chocolate. Small cafeteria counter for sipping good coffees. A pleasure for the eyes and the taste buds...

Over 3,000 labels can be found in this historic Alessandria wine cellar (although the boutique in the center of town offers a more limited selection), which has been open since 1968. Bottles from Piedmont, of course, and from all over the world, but also liqueurs and other gourmet products. Lovers of pastis can tryAcqua del Tanaro, the local aniseed liqueur, and why not take some home in their suitcases.
