Discover seven centuries of history with a visit to one of the finest châteaux in the Orne region: Château de Carrouges.
A remarkable ensemble of brick and stone, as if standing on water, this château bears witness to seven centuries of history. Acquired by the State in 1936, it was inhabited for 15 generations by the Le Veneur family, after the Carrouges and Blosset families. Louis XI and then Catherine de Médicis stayed here. You can visit the house from the kitchens to the grand salons, via the grand staircase. Each converted room (bishop's bedroom, grand salon, Louis XI bedroom, etc.) contains a treasure trove of monumental fireplaces, wood panelling and furniture. A châtelet and park complete the ensemble.
