This 76 m high building is one of the most emblematic of the Porto skyline. Very nice view over the whole city.

This 76-metre-high structure has long been Portugal's tallest building, and the most emblematic of Porto's skyline. It takes a bit of courage to climb the 225 steps, but at the top, the reward awaits you: a stunning 360° view of the city. Second piece of good news: from the top, you'll see that there's no shortage of eateries in the area to help you recover from your exertions. Admire the 49 grandiose bells in front of you. These contribute to the country's most modern computer-controlled carillon, dating from 1995. Don't leave without discovering the Fraternité des Clercs collection of fine sacred art and visiting one of the city's most beautiful churches, the first in Portugal to be built in an oval shape. Observe its dome, the colorful combination of talha (carved gilded woodwork) and marble, illuminated by light from the high windows. This 18th-century Baroque architectural ensemble was designed by the Italian Nicolau Nasoni, who established himself as an architect with this work. He went on to become a leading figure in Porto's architecture, and is on show at the Museo de la Torre, as well as in temporary exhibitions. The church's two magnificent pipe organs also date from the 18th century, and combine face to face: the church's exceptional acoustics provide visitors with an unforgettable experience every day at noon. A place not to be missed!
