Just a few kilometers from Vila Nova de Foz Côa, this fortress bears witness to the region's medieval history. Its strategic position above the Douro gave it a certain prestige in the Middle Ages, before it was gradually abandoned. Today, the town's walls, towers and gates still stand on a hill, offering visitors a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Please note that it's best to avoid getting there by car. The village is best reached on foot. On site, let your imagination recreate the life of the castle and its inhabitants, protected by the solid ramparts.
