SALVATION CAFÉ

A former garage that has become the home of Newport's trendy population for over 25 years. The owners have preserved some remnants of the former occupant, such as these enamelled plaques advertising Gulf products. The result is a rather successful eclectic decoration. In the summer, a bar is set up outside, at the garage entrance. You can also reserve a table on the small terrace. The restaurant, which serves organic cuisine with Asian flavours, is also known for its good cocktails.

The restaurant, one of the city's finest, is just as distinguished as the hotel, a member of the Relais & Châteaux chain. The chef reworks the classics of regional cuisine in his own uncluttered way, using lesser-known products such as panis épicé au vadouvan or subarashi pear to accompany Maine lobster. The wine list is particularly well-stocked. Weather permitting, dine on the terrace overlooking the sea.

Formerly Stoneacre Pantry, this restaurant reopened in 2017 at a new address and with a slightly different concept. It serves contemporary American cuisine. The menu can change daily, according to the chef's wishes and the products available. The dishes respect the seasons and the ingredients are of the very first freshness. Whenever possible, they are sourced from local artisans, from butchers to fishmongers and fresh produce. Nice choice of cheese and French wine list.

FLO'S CLAM SHACK

Lobster rolls and fried clams are a must at this unpretentious little snack bar that has been open since 1936. The prices are a little high but the freshness of the products is well worth it. You can eat on site or order take-out food at the drive-in. If you decide to eat indoors, you will enjoy the very eclectic decor of the place: fishing net hanging from the ceiling, frames on the wall retracing the maritime history of the city next to posters of the Jaws... There is also a small balcony upstairs for eating outside.
