Museum with permanent exhibitions of collections from five continents in Salem

This museum was originally an initiative of the East India Marine Society, an association of sailors, who, as early as 1799, collected their objects brought back from voyages. Since then, the small collection has become a museum with four departments: Asia, Africa, Oceania and India. The permanent exhibitions present collections from all five continents. Don't miss the temporary exhibitions, focused on contemporary art, as well as the authentic Chinese house, Yin Yu Tang, in the centre of the museum, which can be visited during guided tours.
