Homolovi state park was created to preserve from degradation and looting of remains
This park was created to preserve from degradation and looting the remains of what gathered several Anasazi villages (ancestor of the Pueblos, of which the Hopis are part). It is possible to camp and picnic there. Although the park protects Hopi lands and cultural artifacts, it also contains a cemetery for settlers who founded the now defunct Sunset City in the 19th century. At the request of the Hopi tribe, since 2011, the name is still waiting to be changed to "Homolovi State Park - Ancestral Hopi villages".
