Romanesque-style building in Carthage, one of Missouri's finest, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The foundation stone of this magnificent building in Romanesque style was laid on August 21, 1894. It was to succeed a first courthouse of 1842. Heavy disputes between the architect and the director appointed by the court to follow the construction made the headlines throughout the construction. Nevertheless, the building was completed on October 9, 1895. This courthouse, one of the most beautiful in Missouri, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is open to the public for tours and an exhibit on the history of Carthage.
