At an equivalent distance, but towards south Khartoum, the site of Jebel Awlia is centered around the eponymous dam on White Nile. It is also a place of excursions for many Khartoumais on weekends. The freshness of the water and the greenery of the trees guarantee "relaxation/picnic" days about two hours from Khartoum. The bus leaves Mina al-Berri or Mawgif al-Jadid. Note that there are several places on Nils Blue and White, closer to Khartoum, which are good bathing sites, like the east, Burri or Umm Ouadi. If you spend time in Khartoum and make friends of the Sudanese people, they will certainly know about you. In principle, there are no crocodiles (toumsah) in the vicinity of the capital!
