Alençon’s Basilica boasts one of Normandy’s finest flamboyant Gothic portals and stained glass windows.
Built in the Gothic style, construction of the basilica began in 1354. The edifice boasts one of Normandy’s finest flamboyant Gothic portals: a veritable stone lacework populated by statues illustrating the theme of the Transfiguration. A 20-metre-high nave built in the 14th century, an organ and chapels topped by magnificent 16th-century stained-glass windows - including the upper ones depicting episodes in the life of Mary - make it one of the finest buildings in the department, with the exception of the choir and bell tower rebuilt in the 18th century.

La Basilique Notre-Dame d'Alençon est un bel édifice gothique que l'on ne peut pas manquer dans le centre ville. Le bâtiment est bien conservé et on peut noter de nombreux jolis détails architecturaux.
