Beautiful Minas Gerais church featuring a chapel with carved pulpits and a splendid painting of The Ascension of Christ.
Built in 1713, it is quite simply one of the most beautiful churches in Minas Gerais, which is saying a lot! The carved pulpits of the Santissimo Chapel are attributed to Francisco Xavier de Brito, the master of the great Aleijadinho. The splendid painting The Ascension of Christ, in the central chapel, is by Master Ataide. The whole is of great beauty. The work, however, is attributed to his disciples who worked on the gilding and finishing.
