Tower erected in 1083 in Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, with a painted decoration by the artist Marthe Flandrin.
Built in 1083, the tower belonged to the primitive church. It was part of the fortress built by William the Conqueror to create a line of defence on the margins of Normandy. The church was destroyed in 1855, but the tower was preserved. It was restored in 1947 and endowed with a painted decoration by the artist Marthe Flandrin (1904-1987). Her works represent the scenes of "Saint John baptizing", "fraternal charity" and the "barren wood".
