A capital of the eponymous state, Sennar has lost much of its superb since the time when it was nothing less than the political centre of the future Sudan, for three centuries. Today Sennar has completely millenniums. But the process had already begun before the fall of the Sultanate of Founj in 1821. However, the city is largely included in the Agricole agricultural Fabric, thanks to its dam built in the 1920 s by a British adventurer.Based on the Blue Nile, Sennar is no longer the royal route to Ethiopia, now that most of the traffic goes from Gedaref to Gondar. The war in the south made the province of the Blue Nile province unstable, centred around Ed-Damazin and Roseires, and particularly controlled by the authorities.
