TUR BUS

Coach operator
5/5
1 review

Certainly one of the best bus companies from/to the other cities of the country. Many departures are regularly scheduled to the capital of Santiago and to the other cities of the country, in the north as in the south. You can buy your tickets directly at the bus terminal, but the company also has the advantage of offering online booking. In this case, there is no obligation to print your tickets, you will only have to show your tickets on your phone. For the night trips, prefer the seats in category cama.

TERMINAL RODOVIARIO DE VALPARAÍSO

Bus station

From Santiago, several bus companies (Turbus, Condor, Pullman...) make the trip almost every hour. When you arrive, a small kiosk dedicated to tourist information will give you a map to find your way. There are regular departures to the north of the country, to La Serena, Vallenar, Copiapó, then Antofagasta, Iquique or Calama. For the southern cities (Temuco, Osorno, Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt), the buses pass by the capital and stop there.

LATAM

Airlines

This Chilean airline provides international and domestic flights from the Arturo Merino Benitez airport, located in Santiago. So you can board LATAM planes from France (with a stopover in Brazil) and travel around the country quite easily: Arica, Iquique, Calama, Antofagasta, La Serena, Temuco, Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, Balmaceda... to go from the north to the south, a stopover is imperatively made by Santiago. LATAM is the only company to serve the airport of Easter Island.

METRO

Getting around by metro

The metro, inaugurated in 2005, connects the port district of Valparaíso to Limache (near La Campana National Park), via Viña del Mar and Quilpué. In Valpo, you can take it at the following stations: Port Prat (near Sotomayor Square), Bellavista (Lider supermarket, near Ecuador Square), Avenida Francia (at the end of the avenue), Barón (at the end of Argentina Avenue). The frequency is very regular throughout the day (every 6 or 12 minutes), but there is no service after 10:30 pm. It runs along the seafront at the beginning.

ASCENSORES PORTEÑOS

Funiculars and cable cars

Once numbering 31 (the first was built in 1883), these "elevators" were essential for people living on the sloping cerros to get to the center of town. They are in fact funiculars, as they move along rails laid at an angle, with the exception of the Polanco elevator, which moves vertically. Today, 12 elevators have been destroyed, 7 are still operational (the number varies from 5 to 8 every two months), and the others are either in ruins or being restored.
