Bollard marking the symbolic starting point of the Route de la Liberté at the site of the Sainte-Mère war memorial.
There are symbols that you can sometimes pass by without realizing it: such is the case of Borne 0. Located on the site of the war memorial, it marks the symbolic starting point of the Freedom Trail, opened by the American armies in June 1944. The milestone bears the colours and symbols of the United States: the 48 blue stars at its summit represent the then 48 states (now 50), the waves at its feet symbolise the Atlantic Ocean, and the torch at its centre recalls the one brandished by the Statue of Liberty.
