The museum (founded very recently, making it the smallest and youngest museum in Serbia) is housed within the walls of a former Ottoman college dating from the mid-19th century. If its size is a bit off-putting, don't be fooled by the fact that in 2011 it made it to the finalists for the award of the best new museum in Europe. Its permanent collection includes objects from prehistory to the present day with a special focus on the region and its history.
