From this town comfortably situated on an opening of the Danube, and surrounded by forest-covered mountains, you can travel through the gorge or the national park. The archaeological site of Lepenski Vir is 14 km upstream and Trajan's Table 28 km downstream. This large town commands the Kazan gorge, the most impressive on the Danube. If the site has been occupied since the dawn of mankind, a permanent settlement is mentioned only at the beginning of the 17th century, mentioned as a small fishing village called Banja. It was not until the nineteenth century that the town took the name Milanovac, in honor of Milan Obrenović.
