Bridge with an architectural feat at Cape Jourimain with a resistant design to face the ice.
The 12.9 km long bridge, built in 1997, connects Cape Jourimain, New Brunswick to Borden-Carleton, Prince Edward Island across the Northumberland Strait. It is the longest bridge over an ice-covered body of water in the world. This architectural feat is of a design strong enough to withstand the ice and current of the Northumberland Strait. The elaborate design and construction methods took into consideration the land and marine environment.
