National Historic Site where the ruins of Fort Royal, built by the French in the 17th century and renamed Castle Hill, are located.
The national historic site overlooks the historic village of Placentia. The ruins of Fort Royal, built by the French in the 17th century and renamed Castle Hill by the English, are located here. The view of Placentia and its bay from the ruins is exceptional. The visitor center presents the history of the place. You can climb the cannon hill, where some remains of the fort remain, then go to the Gaillardin, a redoubt built by the French.
