Site exploring the cultural interaction between Acadians and Creoles, Indians and Africans, French and Spanish in St. Martinville
This site explores the cultural interaction between Acadians and Creoles, Indians and Africans, French and Spanish, slaves and free people of color. The Francophone history of the various families who lived on Bayou Teche is highlighted. Life on a Creole plantation around 1800 is compared to life on a typical Acadian farm. What is very interesting is the authentic impression that is given of the life of the 19th century planters.
