The castle of Pirou is known to be one of the oldest Norman castles
Known as one of the oldest fortified castles in Normandy, Pirou is a fortress built in the 12th century on the site of a Viking settlement. Listed as a Monument Historique, it features high ramparts, a bakery, a wine press, moats and a sentry walk. Repeatedly besieged and restored over the centuries, it is home to the 58-meter-long Pirou embroidery, which recounts the epic story of the Normans. A rich program will punctuate 2025, including "History and legend" and "Pirou in the Middle Ages" tours.
