IGLESIA DE LA VIRGEN DEL SALTO

At the beginning of the th century, an artist painted a Virgin on a stone. Then the faithful built a small chapel near the Yanayacu River to place the icon there. On 20 June 1698, an earthquake destroyed the city and the holy stone sank. Later, it was found in the middle of the river where it served as a fulcrum to cross the streams. The church perpetuates the memory of this miraculously saved painting.
