CUEVA DE CHICOY

At the northern end of the biotope is this magnificent cave, a 70 meter high cavern filled with stalactites and stalagmites. Similar to a huge dark abyss, the entrance may at first seem frightening. But, the more one advances, the more one guesses a safe way. Once inside, the natural light gives the place a sacred, almost mystical character, which is reinforced by the smell of incense. And for good reason: previously used as a ceremonial site by the Maya, the cave still hosts offerings, blessings and rituals.
