At the western end of the Lençóis, Santo Amaro, resolutely lost, spreads out along the Rio Alegre ("the happy river"). This river marks a natural boundary between the arid dunes and the vegetation. Around here, one inevitably breathes an air of adventure. It is the starting point for the discovery of the Gaivota Lagoon and the surrounding dunes. The town can be reached from Sao Luis by taking a transfer (with Mirotur Turismo). Vehicles from outside Santo Amaro are not allowed to enter the town. In Santo Amaro there are pousadas and some restaurants. Excursions can be organized from Santo Amaro.
