Only 3 kilometres from Ouagadougou, on Kaya road (N), the Loumbila dam is a vast expanse of artificial water fed by Massili, a tributary of the Makambé that becomes the White Volta in Ghana. It is one of the country's major water reservoirs. It supplies drinking water to the capital. If in dry times the waters are low, during the winter the water restraint is imposing. Around the dam, many gardens form a landscape of green culture that contrasts with the savannah. The dam is also known to fishermen.
