Travel Guide Kongoussi

This village of about 35,000 inhabitants is located 110 km from the capital, on the N22 road between Ouaga and Djibo. It was built on the shores of the vast natural lake of Bam, around which stand out large colourful plots of market gardening: tomatoes, onions, fruits and especially green beans, of which Kongoussi is said to be the capital. These futures feed the whole country, but also the distant European countries. Kongoussi is a good place to stop for lunch. It is possible to take a soothing stroll in the meadows along the lake, covered with tall grasses and imposing trees, or on the lake water accompanied by a canoeist.In February 2019, the Kongoussi Territorial Gendarmerie Brigade was the target of a terrorist attack, killing two people. This area, in June 2019, at the time of writing our guide, is classified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) as an "orange" area (area not recommended unless imperative reason).
