INVERNESS CASTLE
It overlooks the River Ness. It was seized by the Jacobites in 1746. Its present pink appearance dates from a refurbishment carried out between 1837 and 1847. Today, it houses a court of justice and a military garrison. The statue of Flora MacDonald, the heroine who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape, adorns its forehead and was sculpted by Inverness-born Andrew Davidson. The castle is scheduled to open to the public in 2025 with the Inverness Castle Experience, an interactive experience that will reveal the history of the castle, the city of Inverness and the Highlands.
