SMOLENSK LAKES NATIONAL PARK

The large national park extends around the Przhevalskoye resort, named after the great Polish-Russian explorer and naturalist Nikolai Przewalski, born near Smolensk in 1839. It is a haven where you can go for long walks and camp by the lakes or in the forest. It is about 60 kilometres north of Smolensk. To get there, it is best to ask at the tourist office in Smolensk, as some agencies organize excursions.
