This small town is the heart of Noto-Hantō, but it is above all the center of lacquerware. It has conquered, in recent years, a place in the firmament of tourism thanks to the reputation of its craftsmanship. Wajima Urushi Art Museum, located 15 minutes from the station, contains a vast collection of Asian lacquerware. Wajima Shikki Shiryōkan is located about 10 minutes from the station and near the Shin-bashi bridge. Here you will see unique pieces from over five centuries as well as contemporary pieces. You will also be able to witness the lacquer making process. Sumiyoshi Jinja, on the other side of the bridge as you head towards the harbor, houses the guardians of the sailors. O-Matsuri Yakata is a small museum which contains the various floats of the great festivals. In this same shrine, the afternoon market is held where you can see the production of fish and shellfish. On the other side of the bridge, the Asa-ichi (morning market) attracts tourists. Prices are quite surprising, but the proximity of the harbor and the atmosphere are pleasant. You can see some ama, the famous snorkelers who collect shellfish or seaweed. Kiriko Kaikan, 20 minutes walk from the station, is home to the lacquered floats used in festivals.
