This small town has become, over the years, a real gem for the number of kura (traditional buildings used as granaries or warehouses) that it has managed to preserve. It was in 1880 that the kura architecture was able to demonstrate its fire resistance. It is said that there are still more than two thousand of them in the city. It is enough to go into the small streets and alleys to be convinced. The city is also known for its ramen and for its excellent sake.
