This port, which dates back to medieval times, is located about fifteen minutes from Ogi. This charming little village prospered in the 17th century thanks to the gold mine of Sado Kinzan and the merchant navy. This fishermen's village still has old houses that are more than two centuries old. They are built with sheet metal walls made of ship's planks. Shukunegi has thus been designated as a preservation area of national importance for traditional Japanese buildings and architecture. Three private houses are open to the public (entrance fee). Here, women go seaweed fishing using tarutas.
