MITCHELL MESA

Mitchell Mesa is an imposing table stone block located next to the Three Sisters. After the signing of the 1868 treaty authorizing the Navajo to return to their lands, men came to search for silver mines in the Monument Valley area. This was the case with Ernest Mitchell and James Merrick who gave their names to two formations in the valley.
