The New York-New York ride is an exact replica of the Big Apple's major landmarks. A roller coaster runs right through it.
The tall buildings that make up New York's mythical skyline are represented. From the Strip, you can see replicas of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Tower, the Statue of Liberty, half its size, and the famous Brooklyn Bridge. A memorial to the 9/11 attacks has been erected at the foot of the statue. Surprisingly, the New York skyline is criss-crossed by a roller coaster. And not just any roller coaster: this one climbs 62 m and drops 44 m, reaching a speed of 108 km/h. The ride penetrates buildings and flies over the streets of a miniaturized Greenwich Village.
Between the red-brick buildings with their metallic cursive lettering, along the cobbled streets where not even the manhole covers are missing, people settle down to eat at the tables. In the lobby, the geometric decor recalls the angular forms of the Chrysler Tower, in a 1930s style. In the middle of the casino, a bar in the shape of a large rotunda sets the mood with loud music.
Until now, the rooms at the New York-New York were a little dated, but the MGM group has announced a vast renovation plan costing several tens of millions of dollars ($63 million) over the course of 2022. By summer 2023, all 1,800 rooms and 150 suites had been renovated. The hotel has also introduced Mad Apple, a new Cirque du Soleil show, to take you on a wild New York night out. Last but not least, the Big Apple Coaster is also scheduled for renovation in the near future.
