Unfortunately, this has got to be the worst restaurant I have ever been to, even worse then street vendors in 3rd world country in terms of food quality and integrity. The owner and chef should be ashamed of serving putrid and spoiled food to customers. We went for restaurant week and ordered the filet mingnon. It had a strange mushy texture that fell apart when cutting. The strip my husband ordered, on the other hand was extremely tough and difficult to cut. We told the wait staff and they were nice enough to offer a different entree for me since I just couldn't eat my steak. I picked the fish, and what they brought a short while later was a putrid, expired fish slathered in a strange red vinegar sauce. The fish smelled so bad even the waitress standing one table away remarked at how bad it smelled. It was just disgusting. I couldn't eat that either. The manager came over and was "nice" enough not to charge us for the expired and rotten food they had served me. Gave us a discount on our meal. My husband had the runs from eating here. Luckily, I escaped his fate because I didn't eat any of the entrees. Overall, the service staff was exceptional. They tried to fix every situation the best they could, but the guys in charge really need to re examin what they are doing in the kitchen because it's a disgusting disaster.
My experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. My boyfriend and I were on a date, and while he was in the restroom, I attempted to pay for our meal. I called the server over and handed him my card. To my surprise, the server asked if I was the owner of the credit card.
I have never been asked this question before at any restaurant. This made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected, as it implied I couldn't handle payment independently.
It's important for all customers to feel valued and respected, regardless of gender or ethnicity. I hope the staff can learn from this experience and provide better service in the future.
I walked over to the restaurant with my wife and half the businesses in the neighborhood have shutdown. Tents, cardboard cabins and the smell, homeless, and tweaked make it an unpleasant journey. But once in the restaurant it was good food and nice people. But then we had to walk back to the hotel and things got interesting. We were approached a couple of times for change, it was uncomfortable.
Just ok. Ate here for San Diego restaurant week and the sea bass was tough, covered in a sweet raspberry sauce, polenta was old and sour an asparagus overcooked. Steaks were pretty good. Disappointing.
My wife and I came here for an early dinner and it was amazing. The restaurant itself is so beautiful and classy. Our waitress/server was so professional and gave us great food recommendations that were delicious. We will definitely be back!
Nikkie was very helpful and the food was delicious. My sister ordered the Australian lamb which was tender and not too gamey, I ordered the filet mignon with truffle butter and Brussel sprouts which was a delicious combo. The Brussel sprouts were the best texture.
I made a reservation for a standard table inside, and when we got there, they said they had no tables for 5 inside. Outside wasn't so bad, but then a party of 5 was seated inside! I think because we have kids they tried to keep us separated. Fine. Our first drink order was prompt, and we put our food order when receiving our drinks within 15 minutes. Things spiraled downhill from here. After 20minutes we ordered a bottle wine(they were out of my first choice) we got the wine 30minutes later! Then our food took another 30minutes! It was almost an hour and a half to get our food. The kids ordered the farfadelle pasta with butter and garlic and got plain curly spaghetti. I mean plain. We said something and it came back in so much butter it looked like soup.
I ordered the special, 8oz filet and lobster tail. The filet was cooked alright but was tough. A prime filet should NOT be difficult to cut through. I barely at any of it l, it was not good. The lobster tail was so hard to get off the shell and had dark grey spots. Again, barely touched it, I have a picture. To say the least. I am outright disgusted with my experience. I did hear after that the restaurant next door, Grey Steak is the same owner and had a kitchen fire and so the 2 restaurants were sharing a kitchen. For what I paid for this dinner, after hearing that, ugh. Its just not right. Oh, my wife's lobster ravioli special was good.
Went to this restaurant for the second time (this time on a Valentines Day) and have been happy both times. Food, service and even the drinks were on point. Big thank you to Jessica for making our Valentines day feel truly special. Steak was so juicy, and their lamb chops to die for. I'm definitely coming back to this place for my upcoming birthday!
Made a reservation but we never made it in even though we were 5 minutes ahead of time. The reservation clearly stated that we wanted to be seated inside, but we were told that there were no available tables inside and offered to sit outside. It was too cold to sit outside, and we asked how long it would take to get a table inside, we were told that it would be 30 minutes. We thought of sitting at the bar for those 30 minutes to wait for a table but were told that there was no room at the bar either. That's when they also told us that they were overbooked.
Why make reservations at all then?
We don't live in the area and made efforts to get there. It was very frustrating.
My friend and I were craving a good steak and the reviews to Butchers' Cut convinced us to try this place out. And we're so glad we did! We loved everything about this place from looks, down to the presentation of the steak. We ended up getting a 35oz steak to share with mashed potatoes and it was one of the best, if not best steak I've ever had. My regards to the chef.
I think what puts this place over the top is the service. The waitresses would check up on us often and made sure that we were satisfied with our meal. Thank you Aleksandra and the beautiful Nicky.
10/10 would recommend. And definitely check out the Limoncello Sponge Cake!
I have been on the hunt for a fantastic steak for a while. I think I've found a really good one here! We had the bone-in ribeye - it was delicious! Perfectly seasoned and cooked, I thoroughly think it is worth the price. Sadly, the sides I got were not. The garlic mashed potatoes, while fluffy and garlicky, they were lacking in salt and butter. We also got the brussels sprouts, which were nicely cooked but needed more of the balsamic sauce.
Our overall experience was great. But for the price i would want everything to be absolutely fantastic.
Food is mediocre and overpriced. My twice baked potato wasn’t even fully cooked. The meat was undercooked for what was asked. Service was slow even when the Resturant wasn’t busy. Servers were more interested in talking and giggling with each other than attending to their tables. Appearance wise, it had a neat atmosphere but the overly loud techno music playing ruined the mood. Save your money or go across the street to the nice Italian Resturant.
Service was slow . Got muddy tea had to return waiter noticed but still served . He did make a fresh brew. My husbands NY steak was so tough hard to cut . Tough
Very disappointed. Caprese salad was good . Will visit my other steak places in SD not impressed on first visit
I should of gone by the last review I read because we experienced the same thing. My husbands steak was under cooked and my son's steak was overcooked. My salmon, I think was frozen and way too much sweet sauce. Then to top it off we got cheesecake out of a box, we could see him taking it out of the box, we thought it would be homemade. For a dinner of 3, the bill was $450.00, that's insane!! So disappointed..............will never come back, read the reviews it helps!!!
Can’t talk enough great things about my dinner at butchers cut. Drinks were on point and the service from mollie and Jenny were 10/10. Will for sure be back once I’m stateside!
If you’re looking for a spot with beautiful ambiance, great food and fantastic hospitality this is your place!! My wife and I decided to stop in for a quick Hot Totty (as it was strangely cold in SD .. lol) along with slice of birthday cake… and not only did our bartender Jenny go above and beyond with the birthday cake… she made an absolutely delicious Hot Totty and Carajillo for my wife and I. She showered us with amazing service and tasty drinks!! And would’ve been the main reason to make a return visit until Molly made an appearance! As her mixology skills were on full display with her creation of “The Cindy” for my wife. A warm and smooth whisky cocktail with a floral tint. They were both so amazing and really personify the kind of modern day bartender a customer wants serving them. Looking forward to my next visit!
We were hoping for a relaxing steakhouse experience but ended up with a rushed and poor experience, everything was dreadful. We ordered and the appetizers which came quickly and were ok but before we finished them our steaks arrived, the server attempted to push the appitizers aside to place down the steaks on a tiny table of which there was no room. We were left waiting for cutlery. Bread arrived before any cutlery and after the appetizers. The steaks were dreadful, really hard on the outside it was like sawing through a block of wood. The steaks looked cooked as ordered but were dry and tough. One of the sides was freezing cold. We were in and out in less than 50 minutes all for a cost of almost $300
