Roman amphitheater built in the first decades of the second century.
The Roman amphitheatre of Lecce was built in the first decades of the 2nd century, at the time of Emperor Trajan or Hadrian. It could accommodate nearly 25,000 spectators. Discovered by chance in 1938 during the construction of the Bank of Italy building, it was only partially cleared, as part of the building was still (and for a long time) underneath the buildings, including the church of Santa Maria della Grazia. Today you can walk around it and see part of the arena and the lower tiers with the access doors.

An amphitheater, which has real interest only because of its location in the heart of the city.

Superbe amphithéatre, mais sans explication donnée, pas de panneau, si on n'a pas de livre ou de guide on n'en sait pas plus ! Mais ça reste très joli sur une belle place
Unmissable in Lecce - an open-air museum the city not to be missed. It is necessary to all the tower to discover of them all facets in this beautiful city.
