Center of Alberobello, divided into two districts: Rione Monti and Aia Piccola

The centre of Alberobello, where the trulli are concentrated, is divided into two districts: the Rione Monti, larger and older, and the Aia Piccola, smaller. Situated on two hills, they are separated by a square in the depression, the Largo Martellotta, where bars and restaurants are concentrated.

Rione Monti. Via Monte San Michele takes you into the fascinating setting of the trulli, which are arranged in a row of onions. Some of these dwellings, such as the Trullo Siamese (via Monte Nero), give access to terraces with panoramic views. At the top, via San Michele becomes via Monte Pertica: on the right, a park surrounded by cypress trees, on the left, the parish church of Sant'Antonio di Padova, a trullo church from the early 20th century whose central space is covered by a typical 20-metre high conical roof. You can go down Via Duca d'Aosta and the street parallel to Via San Michele.

Aia Piccola. It can be reached via Via Brigata Regina. On the right, from the public gardens, there is a superb view of the whole city. The panorama is so wonderful that a stop at the Villa Belvedere bar is a must, where you can enjoy a granita (sorbet) on summer days. Continue along via Duca degli Abruzzi and via Giuseppe Verdi.

From the belvedere next to the church of Santa Lucia (Piazza Giangirolamo), there is a magnificent view of the Rione Monti opposite: with their pretty grey roofs and white stone walls, the trulli can be seen by the hundreds.

superbe
