Why should you visit Kotor?

Kotor is not only one of the most visited destinations in Montenegro, but it has also been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status and is considered a must-visit by publications like Lonely Planet.

Kotor has a rich cultural and historical heritage, and is one of the best preserved medieval towns in this part of the Mediterranean.

The richness of Kotor's history comes from the city's cultural heritage, marked by the different eras and rulers of previous centuries.

Kotor was founded by the ancient Romans under the name of Acruvium. In the 10th century it was an autonomous city ruled by Byzantium, and from 1186 to 1371 it was a free city of medieval Serbia.

It was Venetian and Hungarian for brief periods, an independent republic from 1395 to 1420, and Venetian again until 1797. The city suffered periodic damage from Turkish assaults and earthquakes. Between 1807 and 1814 it was occupied by France. The French period was followed by Austrian rule until 1918, when the Slavic sailors of the Austro-Hungarian navy mutinied in Kotor and the city was incorporated into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (from 1929 to 2003 Yugoslavia). Today, Kotor is part of Montenegro, which became independent in 2006.

You do not need any tests or vaccination certificates to enter Montenegro. All you need is valid documents (passport) and the desire to relax and enjoy a summer holiday in Kotor.

Montenegro is a "safe travels" destination. The international SAFE TRAVELS label has been received from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and allows travellers to identify destinations and businesses around the world that have adopted high global standards of sanitation. Curfew is from midnight to 5am, and the inter-city traffic ban is still in effect on weekends, but it does not apply to tourists.

Most hotels in Kotor are open, and those that were temporarily closed are preparing to open in the coming days.

Hoteliers are trying to attract guests with special discounts and attractive arrangements. Special offers are especially valid in May and June.
