ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF THE SYNAGOGUE-BASILICA

This 1,^200m2 site (Sinagoga dhe Bazilika Onhezmi) is located next to the bus station and tourist office. It houses the remains of the Byzantine town of Anchiasmos: two synagogues from the ^2nd and ^4th centuries, transformed into a Christian basilica in the ^6th century, which was itself destroyed around 580. The site has enabled us to understand how Christianity developed here from a Jewish community. A mosaic from the basilica is on display at the Archaeological Museum (150 m to the southeast).
