ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF THE SYNAGOGUE-BASILICA
Byzantine remains of two synagogues ( and centuries), replaced by a Christian basilica in the century.
This 1,200m2 site (Sinagoga dhe Bazilika Onhezmi) is located next to the bus station and tourist office. It houses the remains of the Byzantine town of Anchiasmos: two synagogues from the 2nd and 4th centuries, transformed into a Christian basilica in the 6th century, which was itself destroyed around 580. The site has enabled us to understand how Christianity developed here from a Jewish community. A mosaic from the basilica is on display at the Archaeological Museum (150 m to the southeast).
