In the Edo period, the circulation between domains was not free and many checkpoints existed. The one of Hakone was the most important one, since it allowed the entry to the capital for the lords who had to go there regularly. The post has been very well renovated recently. Life-size figures, sound effects and historical documents show the daily life of a checkpoint, in its most routine aspects as well as the most surprising ones. Nicely done.
