SCAI THE BATHHOUSE
Not far from Ueno Park, in the Yanaka district, is this small gallery built in a former sentō, a public bath whose architecture it preserves: the pagoda roof and the gray tiles. Inside, however, the atmosphere is completely different. White walls, mortar floors... in this minimalist setting, avant-garde artists from Japan and abroad come to present their work. Louise Bourgeois, Ufan Lee, Mariko Mori and Anish Kapoor have all been here. Small but effective. The carefully curated exhibitions leave a lasting impression on visitors.
