The permanent archaeology exhibition of the Schwab Museum was transferred to Neuhaus, while the temporary exhibitions are now housed in the former building. The permanent exhibitions focus on the city's watchmaking past, the painter and writer brothers Karl and Robert Walser, and 19th-century bourgeois life.

It is home to an inn (a former cloister built in 1127) where Jean-Jacques Rousseau stayed for two months in 1765. Goethe, Empress Josephine Bonaparte, the kings of Prussia, Sweden and Bavaria also visited the place.
