Ranging in altitude from 1,710 to 2,640 m, Grandvalira, the largest ski area in the Pyrenees (1,926 hectares with 210 km of pistes), has been in existence since 1956, when the first ski lift was built at the foot of the Coll Blanc peak (Pas de la Casa). Seven years later, the first lift was installed at Soldeu. Since then, the ski area has gone from strength to strength (renamed Grandvalira in 2003). Today, it comprises 7 sectors, all accessible with a single ski pass.
