Located halfway between Kraków, Tarnów and Nowy Sącz, this small town houses a beautiful castle in a picturesque landscape. The town dates back to the 12th century, founded as a monastic village dependent on a much larger lordship spread throughout the region. In the 14th century, its ownership passed to the noble Lubomirski family, a great princely lineage that owned salt mines in the region. The Lubomirski family founded a baroque parish church and a town hall in the town. They also built the Carmelite monastery on a hill near the castle.
