A majestic Gothic cathedral, miraculously spared by the Second World War, dominates this small coastal town. Even though 80% of the town was destroyed during the war, it retains a certain charm and a romantic setting. It lies on the Vistula lagoon, a bay in the Baltic Sea, while its cathedral rises to the top of the hill and is a major tourist attraction. Copernicus spent most of his life in Frombork, where he carried out most of his research from 1509 until his death in 1543. The astronomer is buried somewhere in the cathedral, but nobody knows the exact location.
