Founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1305, this pleasant town of around 30,000 inhabitants lies at the southern end of Lake Jeziorak, surrounded by vast forests and numerous lakes. It offers an idyllic setting, common to the region. However, it is also one of the largest towns in Masuria: it is more active than its neighbors, being the largest center of water tourism in the western part of the region, while also being an important industrial center in agricultural production and furniture manufacturing. The town itself is not of great tourist interest, but rather a base point.
