This small island, some 15 km south of Bluefields, is home to the Rama people, who number just over 1,000, or around half of the Ramas. They mainly speak Rama Cay Creole, although programs are underway to revitalize the Rama language. A very interesting trip can be organized to this island located some twenty minutes by boat from Bluefields. Once there, discover the way of life of the local community, visit the church built in 1856 and "La Punta de la Despedida," a rock of great symbolic importance located on the eastern side of the island. Overnight accommodation is available.
