Masachapa is the nearest seaside town to Managua, some 30 km southwest of the capital. Buses will take you there in less than 1 hour, after which you can enjoy the magnificent beaches, including Montelimar, one of the most beautiful on Nicaragua's Pacific coast. In a cave just outside Masachapa, you can also see pre-Columbian petroglyphs: some depict animals, others small boats. They cover walls and ceilings and are very well preserved. Masachapa is a good option for discovering Nicaragua's Pacific coast.
